About

We’re passionate about influencing change within our water-using behaviours.

2024 marks the very first Water Reuse Week in the UK. In year 1, we aim to start the campaign for Water Reuse Week. With lots of exciting plans for the future, we are only just getting started!

Water Reuse Week is pioneered by Stormsaver, the Water Reuse Specialists, who feel they have a duty to grow awareness of the relatively unknown principle of reusing water.

The time to start reusing water is now. Water companies in the UK estimate that an additional 5 billion litres of water will be required to meet growing demands over the next 25 years. 5 billion litres of water is equivalent to over 16 million bathtubs worth of water!

Water Reuse is a simple way for us all to contribute to securing the future of our water supply.

As a society, we are yet to realise the full potential of water reuse. Toilet flushing, garden watering, and vehicle washing are all examples of where a sustainable supply from reusing water can be used.

What is Water Reuse?

Water Reuse is the capturing of lightly used wastewater or rainwater for the provision of a non-drinking water supply.

Novel water reuse - Water Reuse is not all about technology. We can all reuse water in our everyday lives to reduce water consumption. Whether it is collecting and reusing water from kettles, condensing driers, or simply placing pots to collect rainwater in your garden, there are many low-cost ways of making an impact.

Rainwater Harvesting - Rainwater harvesting is the collection of rainfall from a clean surface area like a roof space to reuse as an alternative water supply for non-drinking activities.

Greywater Recycling - Greywater is the collection and reuse of lightly used wastewater from bathroom fixtures including bathtubs, showers, and hand wash basins.

How does Water Reuse help with saving water?

Reusing water provides a sustainable alternative to mains water. This is important. Locally sourcing some of your own water gives you more control over your supply and reduces the usage of mains water. Savings can range between 45-70% depending on your building type.

There is a misconception in the UK that we have lots of water available. Due to rapid population growth and the impacts of climate change, mains water supplies are in danger of not being able to cope with demand in the very near future.

It is important we act now to protect our precious mains water supplies for drinking and sanitation purposes only.

Who can benefit from water reuse?

Everyone! We are asking everyone to pledge to save water.  Homeowners, business owners, and schools can all benefit from reducing their mains water consumption and lowering ever-increasing water bills. In a cost-of-living crisis, water reuse has never been more important!

Water companies can also benefit from widespread water reuse by improving water efficiency and reducing stormwater and wastewater discharge rates entering the combined sewer network. That’s less water to transport and treat, reducing the risk of a combined sewer overflow.
